At the April Board Meeting, ten Directors and Chairpersons reviewed the state of your Property Owners Association, planned upcoming events, and created achievable goals for this year. Members agreed that the most important action needed to continue serving the residents of Alta Sierra was to identify and recruit volunteers to complete the roster of Standing Committees. Vacancies still need to be filled for the important positions of Community Standards Chair, Trails and Recreation Chair, plus an additional member of the Architectural Review Committee. A full corps of volunteers is needed to maintain our effective Property Owners Association and Architectural Committee, which are over 45 years old and represent the interests of about 4,500 households. The three specific goals for this year include: (1) Improve the identity of Alta Sierra at our entrances by providing tasteful and welcoming signage at the several portals to our community. Designs are being reviewed. (2) Increase our sense of “community” and build a better sense of concord among Alta Sierra neighbors. Our Picnic and general meeting planned for June 29 is the first step. and (3) Provide a welcoming “Informational Package” to be presented to all new residents of Alta Sierra to supplement our “New Member Package”.The Board would like to call upon the incredible experience and talent of our residents to assist in continuing to enhance our residential neighborhoods in this, the second largest community in western Nevada County. (Paid politicians need not apply!) Please share your wisdom and training with ASPOA. Contact any Board member or Chairperson for further information.

The Board of the Alta Sierra Property Owners Association (ASPOA) recently decided to join with the Fire Safe Council of Nevada County to urge residents to remove the non native, very flammable plant called Scotch Broom. This invasive plant presents an unnecessary fire hazard for our community and will spread if not eradicated. The Board would like to poll the community to determine if any of the ASPOA members need assistance in removing Scotch Broom from their property.
If you need help with Scotch Broom removal, please go to the ASPOA web page: www.aspoa.org/contact/ and fill out the contact form, or send an email to webmaster1@aspoa.org. Include your name, phone number, address and a description of the amount of Scotch Broom to be eradicated. You may also call 271-0766.
