Following are the programs, services, and activities which are overseen by the Board. Our membership application has a section for indicating if you wish to volunteer for some of those activities.
Architectural Review
We review all new and reconstruction projects to ensure that they conform to Alta Sierra’s Covenants, Conditions and Restrictions (CC&Rs) and the Architectural Review Committee Guidelines.
Area Improvement
We sponsor an Adopt-a-Road program to remove trash along the roadside at each of our entrances. We also coordinate neighborhood clean-up drives.
Yard Waste Collection & Disposal
We conduct an annual yard waste collection program to assist property owners in disposing of tree limbs, brush, leaves and pine needles without burning or taking them to the County waste disposal transfer station. This service is free to ASPOA members.
Community Standards
We work with homeowners to enforce the residential standards of Alta Sierra, as specified in the CC&Rs and the Nevada County zoning and land use regulations. We encourage owners and residents to maintain properties and surroundings in a pleasing, healthful and uncluttered manner. Problems are brought to the attention of the responsible individual, and are usually corrected voluntarily. However, if a violation is not corrected, the Board of Directors may choose to enforce compliance via county code enforcement or legal action.
Propane Purchase Plan
We administer a program wherein members are entitled to purchase propane gas from the contract supplier at reduced rates.
Fire Prevention
We work closely with the Nevada County Consolidated Fire District to develop and implement fire prevention programs and identify parcels which require weed abatement or vegetation removal. ASPOA publishes the Alta Sierra and Surrounding Area Emergency Plan and provides copies to new members when they join.
Neighborhood Watch
We assist residents interested in forming Neighborhood Watch groups and provide training. We serve as liaison to the Sheriff’s Department and arrange for Neighborhood Watch signs to be installed at strategic locations throughout Alta Sierra.
Roads & Traffic Safety
We work with home owners and the Nevada County Transportation Department to identify roads needing repair, markings, improved visibility, or other conditions requiring attention. We also work closely with the California Highway Patrol to reduce speeding and other traffic violations, and to remove vehicles illegally parked on the public right-of-way.
Communications
ASPOA publishes the Alta Sierran, a monthly newspaper, to inform all residents about matters of interest within Alta Sierra and in Nevada County. It is delivered free to all homes in Alta Sierra.
General membership meetings are scheduled periodically to communicate the status of issues that the Board is working on. We also invite special guests to speak on topics of general interest or to provide entertainment. These are normally no-host dinner meetings, and the dates are announced in the Alta Sierran and on this web site on the Calendar page. Reservations are required for dinner at cost, but members are welcome to attend the business portion of the meeting only.
Membership
Membership in ASPOA is open to owners of parcels within Alta Sierra. Owners of parcels outside of Alta Sierra, but contiguous to its boundaries, may join with approval of the Board. Renters are eligible to join as Associate Members and enjoy the same benefits and privileges, except voting for the Board of Directors.
