Alta Sierra Mail Theft

In the past couple of months there has been a rash of mail theft problems in Alta Sierra. Local mail carrier Brenda Piland would like Alta Sierra customers to be aware of the thefts and take steps to protect their mail. Brenda has noticed that many customers on her route do not pick up their mail on a daily basis and many of these same customers recently became victims on her route. Local customers have been finding unopened mail dumped on the side of the roads, in garbage cans, drainage ditches, and also several different addresses of mail in their mail box. The postal service has notified the Postal Inspector of the problems but it really takes everyone to end this problem. The postal service continues to be concerned about mail theft and vandalism and offers the following suggestions:
* Do not leave mail in your mailbox overnight
* Put out-going mail in your mailbox just before normal delivery time or
* Deposit mail in the collection can at Alta Sierra Market
* Watch for suspicious activity and call the sheriff if you see anything.
You can also purchase an individual locking mailbox. (Make sure it is a postal approved box. They sell these at Mailboxes.com.)
If you have any concerns or information about the recent thefts please contact the Grass Valley postoffice at (530)273-3429. Also if you find any “dumped” mail, opened mail, or several different addresses of mail in your mail box please contact us.
