Alta Sierra Yard Waste Collection Weekend - 2008

Kathy Carey February 4th, 2008

The date for ASPOA’s Annual Yard Waste Collection Weekend has been scheduled for Saturday, May 31 and Sunday, June 1. The event will again be located at the NID reservoir site at Francis and Ragan Drives. This program is a cooperative effort of ASPOA, the County of Nevada, Nevada County Consolidated Fire District, Nevada Irrigation District, Waste Management, and the Fire Safe Council.

The collection of organic debris from Alta Sierra yards is primarily to prevent burn-piles which contribute to smoke pollution, and to reduce fire fuels, lessening the chance of wild fires. It also results in neater appearance of landscaping, and reduces travel to the recycling center on McCourtney Road.

The program is available to all residents, and is free to ASPOA members. Neighbors are invited to drop-off their tree limbs, stumps, old firewood, pine cones, leaves, needles, etc. Delivered loads are unloaded by our crews, and vary from a single debris container to a pick-up or trailer load. Check-in, on-site coordination and traffic control is performed by local volunteers.

Additional information on the event may be obtained by contacting Al Schafer at 271-0766 or afsarch@sbcglobal.net .
